Polar Bear


The Polar Bear or in latin Ursus maritimus is a big mammal which is part of the Ursidae Family. is a carnivorous bear whose native range lies largely within the Arctic Circle, encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. Sometimes The Polar Bear classified as marine mammal.

Life Cycle
Courtship and mating take place on the sea ice in April and May, when polar bear congregate in the best seal hunting areas. Pregant polar bears need to eat a lot in the summer and fall builddup enought fat reserves to survive the denning poeriod. The gestation takes about 8 months with delayaed implantation. At birth, polar bears cubs are 12 to 14 inches long and weight around one pound. Cubs will remain with their mothers for a litlle two years. After that, the mother left them, and the cubs live solitary with their siblings. Polar bears rarely live beyond 25 years.

Diet
Polar bears feed almost exclusively on ringed seals and bearded seals. They also lnow tp eat walrus, beluga whale, and bowhead whale carcasses, bird's eggs, and rarely vegetation. Polar bears tavel great distance in search of prey.

1. Great Swimmer
Even though the water is icy, polar bears are skilled swimmers. Healthy adult polar bears can swim for several days without stopping. They swim from the mainland to large, floating ice islands that have broken away. Seals often rest on these islands, and the polar bears can swim up quietly and pounce fiercely up on the ice before the seal can react.

Polar bears have black skin to absorb heat, but their fur appears white to blend in with their environment.

The polar bear is the largest and most carnivorous member of the bear family.
